Foods Which Cause Staining of the Teeth
A lot of people who suffer teeth discoloration and stains sometimes still follow great oral hygiene practices. They regularly floss and brush, but still ended up having stains. Despite their best efforts to have white teeth, the food they consume gets in the way of having a clean and white smile.
There are certain foods which leave stains to the teeth, making it hard to keep a totally white smile. Dark colored drinks are a prime example of this. However, you don’t need to totally avoid consuming these foods and drinks to effecitvely get white teeth. You only need to limit your intake with them, and always rinse your teeth, brush them or chew gum after consuming these foods. To get white teeth at home, you can consume foods which are considered to be natural-whiteners for the teeth. Strawberries, celery, spinach, apples and broccoli are known to help you obtain clean and white teeth at home.
To be aware of the different foods which get in the way of getting brilliant pearly whites, here are some of the foods which cause staining of the teeth:
Dark-colored fruits. The pigment of certain fruits like beets, blackberries and blueberries can stain your teeth.
Tomato Sauce. This sauce has an acidic quality which contributes to teeth stains. Pairing the tomato sauce with ingredients like spinach can help reduce the negative effects. Spinach has a natural whitener.
Soda. The citric and phosphoric acid content found in sodas can contribute to the discoloration of the teeth. Excessive consumption of sodas – especially cola based drinks can easily make your teeth brownish and yellowish. Using a straw when drinking will to an extent minimize negative effects on the teeth since it lessens enamel contact.
Soy sauce. A lot of dishes make use of soy sauce as one the ingredients because it helps in making the food tastier. However, the disadvantage of soy sauce is that it can leave stains on the teeth. This sauce has pigments which are dark-colored that candeeply penetrate the teeth structure. To keep your teeth white, it’s advisable to rinse the mouth or brush right after consuming foods which contain soy sauce.
Having white teeth at home is still possible even if you consume these foods. Make sure to maintain dental appointments twice every year for cleaning and get rid of plaque. To minimize teeth stains and have a clean bright smile, it’s very important to regularly brush your teeth. People who suffer from a chronic dry mouth are more prone to having bacterial build up and tooth decay. The use of antibacterial mouthwash right after brushing helps address the problem. Drinking plenty of water can also minimize dryness of the mouth.
